It seems like background music to me lately, so far removed from the tours, even the E72 sounds punchless, what haven't I heard that might draw me back in, and yet I have hundreds of hours of this stuff... Tell, Cliff, help me??? Do you ever feel this way?

Try the sound of silence. Listen to the world around you.

Hey Cappy,

This just in. Special thanks to Mr. Wineland for the tip.

A worthwhile distraction.

Have no fear Captain, this happens to the best of us. This time last year I could not even listen to a lick of GD or jerry really, and I blamed it on the E72 box. When that came out I listened too it nonstop for weeks. Then one day I just turned that shit off. The burnout was ridiculous.

I guess my point is it will come back to you. Just dont force yourself to listen to try to get yourself back into the groove. I tried that and it only made the burnout worse. You'll be back, it just might take a while.

Capt. Cook thought you died in Hawaii!
sorry to hear they didn't dig your "I'm a God" B.S.

I recently watched the Kesey "Further" bus footage-
in "Magic Bus" movie...with a person who "hates" the GD-
she didn't recognize Garcia beardless/young or the music of 66'GD....so may I suggest the 66' CD in the GD Warner Bro.box set...the CD-of Bear tapes of 66'- "Two from the Vault -68 Shrine" or..(Country Joe & the fish/Quicksilver M.S./13th Floor Elevators/Buffalo Spring./Big Brother...1st&2nd..LPs)

Hey CC--it is in fact 3 yrs for me...I just burned out; and haven't felt the urge for a while. Really a huge event for me, but strangely, not unlike what I did in the 90s.

It's like breaking up with a girl you still love, but have moved past. You wonder if you are moving in the right direction.

I know I wasn't on the list of saviours but I have from time to.time felt the way I think you are describing... and for me I always find my way back thru JGB. I would suggest the double CD release from titled "Jerry Garcia Band".

You were number three... Haha. Scarlet - Fire saved me, there is still a moment there where it all seems to come together like no other band can do... Thanks...

you burn out -- that's what happens -- after you are saturated with dead music, you can tell a mediocre China Cat from a not mediocre one, but it just isn't exciting anymore -- you can't hear the space between the notes, just the notes you know are coming.

i haven't really listened much for the past 3 years.... but i know i will again someday -- i already had a gap of 10 or so years of not listening to the dead, and then listening intently for a few years, and now not listening again -- when the time is right.......

AND DON"T WORRY -- i would not describe E72 as "punchy" in the throes of my deepest dead euphoria. now, 89 dead, they were a little punchy but... no....

Silence is hard to find these days. I found a nice chunk of quiet last weekend at Lake Davis(northern California). I must say that silence is highly underrated and worth a listen.

You don't mean Lake Davis near Virden (sp?)/Portola do ya? West of Reno ~ 60 min...

Cool spot...

Yes indeed. We did the Portola Rail Museum as well. To say my son loves trains would be the understatement of the century.

We had a good time.

Ha! Feather River...right? North Fork? Hmmm; Gold Lake; Graeagle; TROOOUUUUT! Mmmmm...

Great, great area...used to go to Quincy in the 60s with my dad...took the kids for nature outings to area around graeagle in the 90s as we had relatives in the area, one of whom now lives at Lake Davis. Lots of cool snakes & lizards thereabouts...

Listen to other stuff for a while. Then go back to it :-)

I'd been listening almost exclusively to non-GD for a couple of weeks -- good stuff, various bands/artists -- but after a while my ears just wanted a little GD. And when I put some on, I was struck anew with how, well, INTERESTING it is. Kinda like a book you've read before, but it's wonderfully written and such a pageturner that when you pick it up and then can't put it down. Actually I ended up staying up until 3 a.m. cuz it was such a "pageturner," LOL. ("Oh, can't turn this off yet; gotta hear what they do next!" And then, many hours later ...)

I can't tell you how many times that's happened to me. Just listen to other stuff for a while. Something drastically different. Go back after a month.

Might I suggest some Zappa?

Went to about a half dozen shows in the 80s and barely listened to them. Saw the bulk of my shows from 71>77. Saw them in 89 and the spark was somewhat relit again. Probably sae them about 20 times in the 90s. Currently been on a break for the last month or so. Not completely w/out Dead but mixing it up more than usual.

Forget the music entirely. Just begin writing as many posts here that interest you. It's O.K. that they have little or nothing to do w/ any aspect of the band. Write what interests you and don't bother if no one comes along. One in Ten-thousand come for the show (useful GD tie-in) and there isn't that many people here so it will take some time for someone to respond.

It will probably be RBNW.

Magnolia is an excellent movie.

What I'll do is uncheck ALL of the Dead in my iTunes music folder and then update my iPod thus making it impossible to listen to them in the car (my primary listening area). I find that typically 3 or 4 weeks of this leaves me ready to return to the fold.

There are times.....

Do you play any instruments? maybe guitar, piano etc. if you do then try accompanying them on some of the easier stuff....that may get you back on the groove.
